Thanassis is one form of rummy played in Greece. The game is generally played by 4-7 players, each receiving ten cards. Two standard decks of 52 cards each plus 2 jokers are used (106 cards in total). Cards rank as most rummy games (rummy, gin rummy etc.). In contrast to classic rummy, after the deal, the card that is turned face up to start the discard pile determines the wild card rank (i.e. if a 7 opens, sevens are wild cards). Also, it is not allowed to draw from the discard pile. You have the option to play the Dynamitis variant of Thanassis game where, besides normal jokers and the wild cards determined by the first discard card, the twos are additional wild cards.
